First and foremost I appreciate your candor. The fact that you are willing to, time and again, put your own neck on the line when there are many just like you with the same misunderstandings and misguided questions lets me at least respect that aspect of you. You should, however, take a moment to use the massive expanse of information at your fingertips to read up on what are called Logical Fallacies.
In the video I am responding to you commit four in particular that I have found to be impossible to ignore and I would like to spend a moment explaining which they were and why they apply.
Hasty Generalization
When you choose to compare the process of evolution to a simplified version of it (making something very small leading to it being more plausible to be created naturally) you are really not paying attention to the argument at hand. Your statement of how they are the same neglects many aspects of the process, and shows many of us that you really do not understand it. As has been pointed out in countless videos by people more patient than myself evolution is a very complex process that is quite involved and time intensive.
False Dichotomy
At the end of your video you come to the conclusion that a person of intellectual honest means can only accept that evolution and gods creation are ultimately of the same merit. You state this in a way that shows that there are two types of people, intellectually honest and those that are not, which is certainly not the case. Your choice of verbiage here is bad because it poses that people are only one of two options while in reality we know that people fall in a broad spectrum of this measurement.
Straw Man
When you generalize the process of evolution to make it sound like a microphone could be created naturally if you just shrank it down you are in effect building a weaker argument so you can knock it over. This process is only a notch below the ad hominem fallacies in logical merit and as such needs to be removed entirely from your arguments.
Appeal to Popularity
When you say that massive amounts of people believe in Christ, Jesus, or however you choose to put it, you are avoiding the argument many atheists are making. It is not that religion is popular that matters. Populations are often incorrect (mobs or gangs for instance) and cannot be relied upon to make correct decisions. The best way to sum this one up is to refer to the 2000 & 2004 Presidential Elections.
I want to be clear – I am an atheist who opposes your position. I do not think that your experiences or arguments, in any of your videos, have been sound or let alone justified your acceptance of religion. I find your arguments, while quaint to many, are ignoring the logic that many of us hold dear. It would indeed take evidence and logical reasoning to direct me towards god, and I don’t think that is a terrible burden to have. In particular I find that your having been converted by creationist (I’m assuming Kent Hovind) videos and arguments to show that you were not as firm in your lack of beliefs as you make it sound. Being an atheist is not about just not having beliefs, it is about not having reason to believe. I have stepped through the Kent Hovind videos and read many arguments for creationism, and I’m quite sorry to have come to the conclusion that these people come in an array of types, none include upstanding citizenry. many are easily segregated into the categories Liar, Crook, Con, Confused, Uneducated, with the majority of them falling into the first three, unfortunately.
If anything it should be seen as a sign of disrespect to your God that you continue to move him around. His role in the world has steadily been pushed further and further out of the scope of your day to day life and more into either the causal or creator role. Please also keep in mind that while we may not know everything about everything we can certainly use our reasoning skills to come to conclusions that make sense, provided we are given evidence to lead ourselves to it.
I sincerely hope that you will not be negatively impacted by my comments here, as I would sincerely hate to see that you are angry or think I am attacking you. It would be my only wish that you accept this criticism in a constructive manner and better yourself, and your position.
