Yesterdays Downtime… =(
It’s really too bad. Some times things go well, but often things fall apart before they are able to blossom. One such thing is my website, and it fell apart yesterday for reasons that need to be discussed herein. From around 4pm until at least 12midnight I was locked out of my site and it was not able to control or research anything. I had no response from the people of my hosting company, Surpass Hosting, until nearly 7:45pm, and only after both Mike and I had submitted tickets looking for reasoning for the downtime. The full story is still coming.

A Web App Autopsy
A Web App Autopsy - Particle tree looks under the hood of the popular web apps Wufoo, Blinksale, FeedBurner and RegOnline. What programming languages did they use? How long did it take them to launch? How many lines of code do they have? What were their conversions like? A must read for anyone looking at creating a start up. [Digg - Programming]
Hell, if you are interested in web applications at all, you should be checking this out. It really has some interesting information about the trends and note that they did this with applications that use different languages. The only thing i would have changed is to scale the pie graphs out to be able to show that the amount of code bases for each is larger or smaller than another, although the MS ASP app would have to be 5x larger than it is.

the new Jamba Juice Cup
What the hell is this crap. Went to the Oakridge theatre b/c my friend lives over there, and what the hell… They actually enforced their food and beverage rules. My buddy Keith and i had just got Jamba Juice and they werent going to let us in with it. Great minds that we have came together to go around the corner and get two of their cups and pour the drink from one cup to the other, and tada. In we went. Oceans Thirteen was definitely not worth all of our elaborate shenanigans, but eh. It was fun.

One year ago…
One year ago, nearly to the day, I was averaging about 2-4 unique viewers a week, had nearly no content and had a great time telling people that they could go, but nothing was really up. Since I started posting regularly and forcing my friends to go the site is now approaching a thousand unique views. I have people linking to it from the valve media wiki, from hl2coding (this site has unfortunately gone down) and from many others. As time has gone on my site has become much more than it was originally conceived to be, more a project management application and a forum for (almost minimal) discussion. In order to celebrate having 1500 views a day over the last week I decided to skin it, again. =) Sorry folks.
The skin is inspired by PHPBB3, which has also been put into place, and I am quite impressed so far, so let’s get some more posting in there, and some comments on here.

In Programming, One Is The Loneliest Number
In Programming, One Is The Loneliest Number -
Is software development an activity preferred by anti-social, misanthropic individuals who’d rather deal with computers than other people? If so, does it then follow that all software projects are best performed by a single person, working alone? The answer to the first question may be a reluctant yes, but the answer to the second question is a resounding and definitive no. I was struck by this beautifully written piece which explains the dangers of programming alone:
[Coding Horror]
As always, Coding horror has struck a chord for me. Please read this, you should be able to see why it sat heavily on my heart

PHPBB3, or why you have to learn to love the bomb
some of you may have noticed that the forums have been… eh, tweaked; more like replaced over anything else. I am trying out the new version of PHPBB in order to see if the new development playground is going to be better for administrative tasks & SPAM FILTERING! Woo woo!

schools almost out and updates are on their way…
sometimes it feels like I’m just documenting the progress between projects, since I rarely find time to cram the progress reports into my days, but this week should be interesting. I have finally gotten my stances working again and will be gracing your presence with some of the progress (probably a video or two, maybe with some narration and diagrams) depending on my progress on it this weekend.
